Any car owner will tell you that it is not possible to drive without having a minor mishap sometime. It’s just a fact of life that we can’t avoid, as many cars on the road will inevitably lead to some collisions. If your car insurance is in place and you have a solid policy backing you up, the minor mishap can take very little of your time and energy.

When in case of a mishap, you would have to act efficiently and immediately. If you do not know what is to be done it doesn’t help you and will in turn increase your anxiety. So it is important for everyone to know what is to be done is such a situation

If the mishap is minor in nature more like a bumper-to-bumper hit, you may drive over to the side of the road and part. The traffic needs to move on and you can avoid blocking the road.

It is always better to move both vehicles over to the size and clear the road to avoid other vehicles from running into you and adding to the damage. Turn on the hazard lights of both vehicles for other vehicles to see and slow down.

Once you park by the side of the road, call the police to report in. If they do not respond immediately as it is a minor mishap, make sure you follow up and get the report filed. This would later be required for insurance claim process.

You will need to collect all the details of the other vehicle driver. The details should include his name, license number, address, insurance details along with vehicle details, number, registration, model etc.

There is no need for you to investigate or profess to your mistake of causing the mishap. It is for the police to investigate and give them report for insurance purpose.

Your job is over with informing the insurance company about the accident and giving them the details including the photos if possible. Then you can leave it to them to sort out the matters further.
