I am going home to visit and wondered if my dad can add me to his car insurance. I hold a Canadian driving license as I swapped my UK one on arrival.

For car insurance the quick way to get a low quote is do a rate comparison on car policies. Make certain that you choose similar options with the same deductibles, car model, zip code, etc so that all options are a good comparison.

What I always recommend is an online comparison quote at since they have big name insurers and will give several quotes on car insurance polices.

Your father will need to contact his insurer. Most of the time if you are visiting a relative/friend somewhere you do not need to be added to their insurance. As long as you have a license thats valid and recognized where you are going and your fathers permission there wouldnt be any coverage issues. Again he needs to contact his insurance company as they all have their own rules/standards. Be aware if this is the case any accidents/claims you have will be rated against your father and his policy!!
