Do I need to purchase additional insurance for a rental car?

Melissa M asked:

I have my own insurance with good coverages. I am going on vacation and renting a car. Do I need to purchase the additional rental car insurance that they always offer you? Will my car insurance cover me at all in the event of an accident?
Thanks everyone,
I emailed my insurance company and they very quickly got back to me saying that my insurance policy will cover me driving a rental and I do not need additional coverage.

Thanks for your help!

if you have full coverage on your regular auto policy, it will cover you on the rental to the policy limits and your deductible will apply.

No, If you have Comp and Collision you are covered. The reason is that insurance follows the driver in to what ever car he/she is driving.

Call your Insurance agent and ask them…

i feel u need to purchase the rental insurance on the car, if you are in an accident ur own insurance will only cover your car, the one that u pay insurance for, the rental car may be worth more, that is why is cost more or less depending on what kind of car u drive

sometimes your insurance company will cover it, call and ask. If not, then it would be a good idea to get extra for the rental car. My insurance company will cover ANY car that I drive.

No. Your own insurance will cover you if you get into an accident. It’s a ploy for them to make more money.

Call your insurance and inquire. Many credit card companies using their card cover as well.

glad to see that you got your answer already but i just wanted to let you know that if you take the ins that they offer, although you have coverage with your own policy, and got into an accident you would claim under their policy and it would not count against you. as where if you dont take the coverage it would count against your policy. just wanted to let you know in case they didnt tell you…
