How much do you think car insurance would be, ballpark range?

mandy asked:

I’m getting my first car in a few weeks, and we’re going to ass it to my parents’ insurance. They have a car and a van, and I wonder what the difference would be to add my volkswagon new beetle-to-be to their plan.

My goal is to budget $400 to the car each month for payments and insurance. Do i have the right idea? (payment $150-200 hopefully) That’ll leave me $400 give or take spending and saving.

Thanks much.
Also, how much is registration in florida?
Sorry, I figured that there had to be some sort of cardboard cuttout answer availible.

I have looked at quotes, but geico asks for the social security number and I’m thinking “umm… no?” Besides, as I said, I’m adding onto my parents’ and I don’t even know what company they use. I s’pose I will deal, I’m sure it can’t be more than $200 in the difference… I hope. I’m getting the car with an $8000budget, set by self using calculators to figure monthly payments. My dad has his car that he financed and it was like 2.5 percent so the 7.39% I used in all the calculators will mean an even lower payment.

Anyways, thanks.

Your folks will have to get a quote from their insurance company. There are far too many variables to give you any kind of a meaningful estimate. Much of it will depend upon the car but your location is a major factor as well.

It is impossible to answer your question because there are just too many variables and unknowns about your situation.

The best way to find out is to go online and get quotes. This won’t cost you anything. Get 4 or 5 quotes from different companies, compare like with like and find the solution which best suits you. Check out this website which would be a good start.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

I’ve been driving for about two years now ( im 18 ) I have a 2002 nissan altima and my insurance with full coverage is 290 a month. I have no tickets or anything. Its just extremely expensive for new drivers. You could ask your parents to make you the primary driver on the van and your parents on the beetle. Your still insured on the beetle but this will save alot of money. This is what i did.

lots of factors determine auto insurance price.
    here’s just a select list –

    -age of the car
    -make of the car
    -your age
-your driving record (speeding tickets, accidents)
-your location (state you live in)
-your location (city you live in. metro areas are always more than rural areas)
-your location (neighborhood. are you in an area prone to car theft as opposed to another?)
there’s probably more – but those are the first things they’ll look at.
